Meet The Home Brewer
How many years have you been Brewing? Just checked my brew log, it’s been 3 years almost to the day
How did you get into Home Brewing? I couldn’t find the beers that I wanted to drink, so I bought a Mangrove Jack’s kit and produced more beers that I didn’t want to drink. I got curious, did a ton of research, brewed my first All Grain and never looked back
Favourite brewing method? All grain, all the way
Piece of equipment you just can’t do without? My keezer
Favourite style of beer to brew? Mostly IPAs. Getting into sour, funky and blended beers too now
Best beer you’ve ever tasted – besides your own! Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA on tap, Ballast Point Even Keel, the Cantillon Gueuzes are amazing
Best beer you’ve ever brewed? I’m highly critical of my own beers. I’ve done a few IPAs that I was quite happy with. Nothing perfect…yet
Worst beer you’ve ever brewed? Why did it end so badly? Had a few infections in the early days. Never really nailed the exact source, but moving to glass carboys and going German on my sanitation has been game changing.
Biggest disaster you’ve had on a brew day? Dropped a dirty hose pipe in cool wort once, flooded the bathroom another time, many others
Best South African beer at the moment? Tomahawk IPA on tap (Agars)
Do you have any brewing tips to share, that you wished you had known about sooner? Temperature control during fermentation and proper sanitation are where you will get your biggest gains when starting out.
